Hazel has cancer. Augustus had cancer.
Being a teenager is hard enough. Imagine trying to navigate the labyrinth of social norms with cancer on your plate. But they do, and they do it quite well.
These two characters are incredibly strong. Witty, sarcastic oddballs who can’t quite resist one another. Watching their love blossom is bittersweet. A sense of foreboding resonates throughout, making their courtship almost more difficult to observe. It is called The Fault In Our Stars, after all.
I’m not going to tell you what happens so no spoiler alert here. To my credit, I predicted the ending. To the book’s credit, I saw what was coming and I was still moved. Yeah, okay, so I even cried. (And I forgot to have tissues on hand while I was reading it. It was disgusting.)
Listen to the reviews. This one’s worth a read.
