Book Talk: Each Little Bird That Sings by Deborah Wiles

Spunky Comfort Snowberger has spent all of her ten years of life preparing for death – because her family runs the only funeral home in their Mississippi town. She has learned the tricks to dealing with mourning gracefully, how to serve others, and the keys to providing comfort in difficult times.

Yet, when her great-great-aunt Florentine dies peacefully, Comfort can’t seem find comfort anywhere. Declaration, her best friend, has been avoiding her to hang out with the cool girls at school, her irritating little cousin named Peach simply won’t leave her alone, and the rest of her family is overwhelmed with preparing Florentine’s service. Adventurous Comfort must find her own way to grieve, and overcome, after great loss.

Wiles deals with serious subject matter in a very manageable, sweet way. This is a little gem fully of big wisdom. Great choice for kids!
